I have a 29 gallon tank with 10 gallon sump. I have an Aqua C Remora protein skimmer and also do weekly 15% WC.

    Fish Stock:

    Cole Tang

    2 Black Perc. Clowns

    Royal Gramma

Can I add a wrasse to finish out my fish stock? Also if so which one do you guys think I should add?

    Thanks.

    P.S.

Dear Tang Police....I KNOW. lol It's a small tang and when it gets bigger gonna trade em in for a small Yellow Tang. Just wanted to have a tang.

sounds a bit risky to me Claic

the Kole is a big eater and big waste creator

if it where 2 clowns and the Gramma - I may suggest one of either the blue flasher wrasse or yellow fin flasher wrasse based on my quick glance of Live aquaria as min tank size for them starts at 30 gallons

most reef safe wrasse are 50 gallons above I believe

we dont want to upset the Wrasse police either do we?

more importantly, we dont want to upset the Wrasse IMHO

That would be quite the bioload, and I also feel 29 gallons is too small for a wrasse. Wrasses are extremely active, and most require at least 50 gallons. I have three wrasses in my 90 gallon, and often times I think my 90 is too small! that's how active they are.

I had no idea about the wrasse!!!

So you two are saying not to add anymore fish with the bioload?

    I think we are Claic

I would consider swapping out the Kole tang for one of the smaller flasher Wrasse
if I was really keen to have 1 , although I do agree with Kc in that bigger would be better for the fish concerned.

but with the existing fish in there, IMO its asking for problems with both water parameters and dissolved oxygen levels due to the bioload

+1 with Steve & KC. Swapping the Tang for a much smaller fish would be wise.

Tangs eat lots, grow quick & as they get more "boxed" in to a small space, they can also turn aggresive (at least that's what happened with my Blue Hippo in a 55g). The problem is Tangs are awesome fish and we all want to keep them, even when our tanks cannot comfortably support them. But, even getting them small can be a headache as when it's time to get them out, it can be uber frustrating. As my Hippo got more aggresive as it grew, it became a menace to my other fish and catching it was extremely frustrating, almost destroyed my rockwork doing it.

I'd also agree with KC on the wrasses, IMO they need at least a 4ft space to swim & most need lids as they will jump.

Some would say the 2 Clowns & Gramma are enough for a 29g, on their own. I would say you could get away with maybe adding a blenny, or something small that stays under 4" full grown.

Agree with pretty much everything that has been said here, and thanks for the consideration of the "wrasse police" ;)

The only info I'd add is if you were to get rid of the tang, a m/f pair of flasher wrasses would be a nice addition. Also, don't trade in the Kole for a Yellow. Yellow's are even bigger and need more space, and you already don't have enough for the Kole.

a smaller wrasse like a sixline would do ok in that size tank, with a good amount of liverock, but I would take the tang out first before you add ANYTHING else... you said you were planning on taking it out, so just don't add any more fish until you do...

maybe consider a goby or other small fish instead of the tang?

Well I'm going to turn myself into the Wrasse police as I have a sixline in my 29 and he seems happy as a clam I have a lot of rock, caves and tunnels and it spends a good portion of the day hanging out with my two clowns.

    Guilty as charged I guess
