Get a sixline. If he doesn't get along with anyone at any point, remove him. Rest assured you'll have to dismantle the rock to do so, but that's something you'll have to do for the tang anyways.

There are SO many great fish that are better suited for your tank than the tang. I know it's already been said, but also think of it this way.... even though the way our tanks look should be first and foremost self-pleasing, do you really want others to flinch everytime they hear about your tank? I love it when people come over to check out my tanks and leave thinking I'm doing a great responsible job. It's a good feeling and it's something you shouldn't miss out on. You'll never be able to post a pic of your tank without causing a stir. That's gonna get old for you real fast.

Oh, and I've found the six line to brats once they were like a year or two into adulthood. Those suckers get pretty big as seniors and get grumpy like them too. :)

I know absolutely nothing about small flasher wrasses. What are some small ones that are friendly-ish for this size tank. Share some favorites..... bet they're prettier than a tang!

It's all about context and appropriateness. I still think it's ok for someone to think of their fish as "happy" in the appropriate context. I think your literal approach may work for you though, and I'm fine with that too.

have you thought about a Yellow Coris Wrasse? they are reef safe, community fish, and are very colorful. Need a tight lid, but are alot better than a sixline even.

In reference to the link, Carpenteri is going to need room if you also add one or more females. I had one with a couple of females in a 38 gallon tank and was just looking at my short vids of the male the other night, and boy it sure seemed short when he was flashing and running back & forth, and skimming the surface showing off! I will be getting them again in my 55 though...one of my favs!

I've heard they don't flash or show off much if alone, which kind of defeats the purpose.
