I just cycled my tank and I want to add more live sand , its close to 1 inch thick now and I want about 2 . Is that too much ? will the new sand make my cycle start over ?

you dont even need live sand to add if there is already live sand in there. just buy some substrate and your exsisting LS will seed the new

adding regular or "dead" sand wont do any damage if you wash it out and add it gently right??

+1 If you do end up adding more sand, do it a little at a time. If you dump an inch of sand on top of your existing sandbed, you will smother all of the critters and aerobic bacteria that live in your sand.

1" is fine in my opinion. Deep sand beds are used by some hobbiests but there is an ongoing debate (war) between those that love them and those that hate them. That being said, a sand bed is not considered a "deep sand bed" unless you have 4 or more inches of sand. I use a deep sand bed in my refugium but would never use one in my main tank.

I think 1 inch is enough for sure.
