Hello 3Reefers! I have a pretty simple question but i am nervous about my conditions. Here it goes.

My 20 gallon long has been set up for almost 1 month now and the sand bed is a little thin roughly less than 1 inch around. I was wondering if it would cause any HUGE Problems if i added another 20 pound bag of sand. I have 1 Diamond goby at the moment and about 10 ponds of live rock. Will be actually adding more live rock today when i get the live sand maybe about 20-30 pounds.

    Any advise?

your going for a dsb? thats alot of extra sand . also how much LR you gonna add. be careful with not too much, could start another cycle, or even mini one.

Divott hello and thank you for the quick response i am looking to have a Small reef in time of course. Not 100% Sure what DSB Stands for sorry for my lack of SW termanology. I was thinking of buying another bad believe its a 20 pound bag of bio-active live sand and adding a couple cups a day to make sure i do not stur up too much. What do you think?

DSB = deep sand bed. adding it slowly is ok. but its more the amount of LR that id be worried about. who knows how much die off you could get from it.

Hmm okay good idea so best bet would be to get a smaller ammount of live rock this time and add slowly in time i take it? The live rock i have had my eyes set on is Jakarta live rock from a LFS that has a really nice fresh shipment of it. I bought 1 piece about a week ago and it is doing GREAT without moving my Param's that much.

fresh meaning it was uncured at the lfs? or was it? you can add a lb or so here or there slowly . since its a 20 , dont want to over tax your water. so thats why i suggest a little bit.

if you can get dry sand and rinse it well that would be better because there will be no bacteria in it

dry sand would be your best bet so you dont have anything spike. add it slowly covering up your current sand bed with dry sands will cut off some oxygen causing some of the areobic bacteria to die. just add a little at a time mixing it in with your current sand bed

i think your diamond goby with enjoy the deeper sand. Hopefully he is eating enough. i think they need an established sand bed to eat throughout the day.

also be careful adding uncured rock to your tank.
