can i cycle on vacation?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if it wad okay to cycle on vacation. I have live rock and live sand straight from the LFS tank they were getting rid of, and I wanted to add some damsels in. The only thing is that I mentioned I was going out of town to the LFS person and she seemed to have an issue with it, but I couldn't tell why even when I asked. As far as feeding thr damsels I have someone coming over, who has taken care of my other fish (freshwater) for a bunch of times. I'll only be gone for about 4 days. Is this an issue?

Why not cycle with raw shrimp?

 

Throw a raw skrimp in there and come back, it'll definitely start the cycle, not if itll be done. Post your results when you get back.

 

I cycled for 6 weeks once on a 200 gallon tank while on vacation. Using live uncured rock.

 

Agreed. Cycle while on vacation, but skip the fish and just throw in a Raw Shrimp.

I wouldn't cycle with live anything myself. Just throw a shrimp in there like mentioned above.

 

Just spent like an hour reading all the threads about people who couldnt get their damsels out...not something I want to go through. Shrimp here I come!

 

Remember, dead shrimp jk jk if you want you could use pure unsented ammonia. That's what I use with FW.
