I have a 12 gallon nano dx now. I am working on finishing my basement. And as strange as it sounds to some, even to me.. . My wife to be has asked me if I have thought about putting a tank in the wall. My step-dad is a carpenter, or is that jack of all trades master of none. Anyway, how much of a difficulty difference is there between my 12 gallon nano, and say a 50-100 gallon tank??? My 12 is saltwater, with 2 clowns, leather, fungia plates and zos. Any suggestions-encouragement is greatly appreciatted>>>>> I've had my 12gal about 14 months!!!!:tongue4:

    Great wife!

If you have managed a 12 gal for 14 months...you know all you need to know about stepping up to a larger tank.

If you have option, go for the largest tank you can afford. You will not regret it.

Good prior planning will save you bundles of money and frustration. :p

    Happy planning!

Sure you can build one into a wall just have some access to the area behind it to service the sump and equipment. Heat can be a factor also Ii installed a 20 inch A/C return and 2. 8 inch registers over mine at home in Richmond.. I have a closet the entire length in the rear. I have to drill a 75 now to get it ready for a wall installation for a few friends up here in Ct for their new restaurant . It will be in the wall.

Sounds great tankster. The back of mine will open up into a washroom with floor drain, when and if it happens. At least with my nano I've learned some of the ups and downs. I love my nano, as everyone with one knows, space disappears quickly. Plus I have a big, at least in my tank, bta. Which always causes placement issues of other coral..... Thanks to everyone for the help....

+2 on that. Plus a larger tank is easier to care for and is more forgiving if your husbandry isn't good, more water volume to dispate the problem.
I just put a 265g in the wall. Click on the "My tank thread" in my signature and check it out.

Your tank is awesome. My problem here is I only have 1 friend who knows anything about fish. Luckily he owns his own shop which is a plus. But being on 3reef makes up for lack of friends knowing about fish... You guys are great!!!!!! I could see my 2 and 4 year old sitting in the tank.. My 4 year old did stick his head in a 30 gallon freshwater I had once!! Thanks for your help otty....

No problem. You will not regret a bigger tank. Only advice I have is make sure you put it eye level so you don't have to bend down to look in it like a normal tank stand is. The bottom of mine starts at 3' off the ground, much more pleasant for viewing.
