Well I own a landscape buisness and we also have a company that works literally next door that we own that we specilize in ponds fountains etc. Because we own a pond store we have fish tanks and sell koi. I took it one step further and have some saltwater fish and supplies for this also and we order stuff from alot of wholesalers. I pay cost on fish and supplies. You can do it and its not illeagle. The disadvantage is your more well known companies want pics of your store front before becoming a dealer. I have one so its not an issue but there are guys that do the stuff out of there basement and have dealers selling them stuff. Heck if it works for you go for it.

It seems fine, but they may want you to actually be a retailer pet store/fish store. I know someone who had an account with ORA, until someone in the local club got pissed at him and dropped a hint to ORA that he was selling out of his basement, which not only violated ORA's policies, but also many local ordinances prohibit running a business out of your home and you can be fined.

Well Of you become a dealer you can find out. The biggest thing I respect from the companies it say cost os 200 some companies say min you can sell for is 275 to keep our product value. I think this is a great thing! you can get a deal if bringing in product for you or your company but keeping fair market value. Makes people not becoming internet whor@s. I also understand this from owning a company as if the high school kid thinks he can mow a lawn great but he cant make stripes in the lawn like a baseball park. and he doesent have the liscence to spray fertilizer 4 times a year and put down grub control. and weed killer... and etc you get where im going with this although through a landscapers view.....

Most wholesalers want you to "be in the business". In fact someone I know was moving a lot of goods out of his basement and the suppliers found out and cut him off. Since this was his only source of income, that basically put him out of business overnight. He had to go open a LFS to continue.
