    Do you know were the rock came from? If it didn't come from the ocean, i.e. made from calcium carbonate , it may have other minerals that could leach and cause problems. I wouldn't trust my future tank on it.

    I appreciate all advise and am not being disrepectful.....just really want to use the rock because it looks good.

    All we can do is offer advice. What goes in your tank is up to you.

    I'd strongly recommend against it. SW has corrosive properties not found in FW and could cause minerals to start leaching, wreaking havoc on your pH as well as your chemistry.

    My feeling is that live rock is the lifeblood of any reeftank. I would not take a chance using rock from fresh to salt. As the others have mentioned the copper is a very serious thing. Even if he did it just once it may still be there. Copper doesnt go away with water changes. You could do a copper test but if there is a trace you could be in trouble. Also if your clean up crew eats algae that has copper they may die as well. As you may have read you can buy dry rock and seed it with coralline. Sounds like you're willing to take the chance but copper isn't something to mess with.

    +100000000 here, I WOULDN'T chance it for one piece of rock...
