I'm about to get an All-Glass brand 55 tank. Can I drill it for overflow and returns? I've drilled a 29 before and know how to do it but I've never drilled a 55 before and was just wondering if this brand is dillable?

yes you can. i bought an aqueon(all glass) 55 at petco and drilled an overflow in it. just the bottom cant be drilled as it is tempered. DONT drill the ones that come in the kits though.

You can drill tempered glass, the reason they make it sound so risky is to cover their ... and most people don't use the correct equipment. You need a diamond covered bit which are not cheap but won't break the bank. Also make sure you drill under water, you can use clay/putty/whatever to make a "pool" around the area you are going to drill and fill the "pool" with water. Make sure your drill is fully charged if battery operated and do not apply to much pressure. Slowly apply pressure and let the drill do the work. Also drill from the bottom of the tank (turn it upside down). There is a small risk of breaking the tank but if done correctly you won't break it. It's up to you if you want to take the chance and it is not that risky.... just a chance of something happening so keep that in mind.

+1. Do NOT attempt to drill tempered glass unless you want to be cleaning up hundreds of pieces of glass.
