I've also heard that condies will not host ocellaris clowns (which is part of the reason I'd like to get an anemone)

Condys do not require as high lighting as bta anemones. As for eating fish i cant confirm or deny it although I'm pretty sure the stings killed my goby

well i respect all that gave info on this nem greatly but i must disagree, if i remember your tank is almost 3 feet deep 39 watt bulbs will not give this nem enough light, this nem hangs to the bottom in rubble in the ocean and solid reefs. first it will lose its bubble tips it will constanly move trying to fine a home and will most likely find a pump that will chew it up a bit it will lose its color and imo die within 1 to 2 years, long term nem survival imo is over 2 years the graveyard for these nem is the size of mount rushmore and growng reefers will say mine did find with this or that lighting but the key word is did. well here comes the t5 police to rip me up

I would have to disagree with your statement about these nems hanging around on the substrate. The majority of the reading/ tanks I've seen have them up on liverock, some very close to the top of the tank.

I would agree that the bottom will not have enough light, but I never intended to put it there.

I'm also running much higher PAR ATI/ KZ bulbs vs. your standard t5's

I honestly wouldn't worry about him climbing up rock, they do that and they will find themselves a home where they are comfortable some do stay on the sand but others climb, I added mine today and e went from the bottom of my tank to the top of the rock and now he is moving down again. They will find the perfect place in your tank whether it's on the substrate or on your highest rock

what i said was, where they live in the ocean, where they are found is on the bottom substrate and solid reef structure, i try to save lives from what i have learned in my little time with reef tanks, i can think of no other ocean creature that reefers including me have killed, more than the anemones, they are imo the hardest of all to keep alive long term in tanks but i still wish you luck with the nem if you decide to get one

I would absolutely agree as far as people killing them on a regular basis. I think it is a close race between anemones and mandarins though. Both are highly sought after by new tank owners and most LFS (not all) will sell them without asking a single question because all they care about is making a sale.

I, on the other hand, take a great deal of care in maintaining my tank and all of it's inhabitants and only want what is best for it. I research everything extensively before I go through with a purchase and take care to watch my tank closely for any sign of issues. The main reason I asked about anemones here is that almost all of my research said I should be able to maintain one, but it all came from sites that were selling RTBA's.

I hope I don't come across as jerk- I do truly appreciate that someone is looking out for the creatures that we pull from their natural environments for our enjoyment. I think you will find that almost everyone with experience on this site feels the same way- hence the reason I joined 3reef.

Thanks for the feedback and happy reefing!
