I have ordered a 72x40x34 glass tank from miracles. On black friday I ordered
90 cw,100 rb ,10 xml's(I think that is correct suposed to be the new more powerful cree which I will be running on the outsides so I can keep stuff on the sand bed)and drivers although I do not remember how many but now I realize I can run 24 per driver instead of 12 so I will have extra. But after seeing all the threads on here with UV and turquois lights has me thinking I need to add some.

My plan was running 2 inch strips long ways and alternating whites and blues.

On a thread here I see where he clustered them 3 to 4 so the colors blend better together. So I could run a 1 inch strip next to the 2in or another 2inch.

How many do you think I should add of each. I also see they have the violet 420 crees . Should I switch some royal blues out with these?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

    What driver's are you using?

Are you wiring the LED's in Series or Parallel?

Whether you cluster the LED's or put them all in straight rows doesn't matter as long as the colors are alternating according to Mike Menari of Rapid LED.

Not much is really known about the turquoise as far as I know. But if you use it sparingly it will help to broaden the visible spectrum and bring out additional color. I am in the process of a build which uses the turquoise combined with deep red and royal blue.

I highly recommend adding the violet LED's. I've read nothing but reports of better color and growth after this color was added. My build is 48" long and will have 8 True Violet spaced out inside the actinic strings.

I will have to look at them when I get home to see what drivers. I cannot remember . There was 3 kinds and 2 were dimmable and the one that runs the xmls was not.

Should I not get any UV ones from aquastyle and just go with the Violet 420mn?

I don't know about those. I haven't seen any data on that brand of LED and the spectrum they claim is just barely into ultra violet.

Personally I'd stay above 400nM. Metal halide emits UV and is has protective glass covering it for a reason.

I'd get the violets from rapid or google Exotic true violet led and take a look at those.

First of all, welcome to 3reef! I hope you like it here!!

So it's a 425gallon tank, correct? Is the tank up and running at the moment? We'd like to see some pics! :)

I wish Rapid had 420nm when I was shopping around... When I asked them if they were gonna carry any time soon, they said no...

Anyways, Id include something 395~398nm and 420 from Rapid. I have been using AquaStyle 398 LEDs for 2 months~, they are fine to me.

Have you looked at these threads?
    -UV effectiveness?
-Wide spectrum LED build (my build :) )

If anything I'd swap some whites out for uvs! Mike from rapid suggests to add 10-15% uv of your total led's! When planning this out, remember most these colors run at different max drive currents, so you won't be putting different colors on the same string, more than likely!

425g? nice looks like you'll be building a large light! take a look at my buddy Gregs build, he did an outstanding job on his, they will be going on his 8' 300g tank in the near future but are currently on his 8' 165g ATM.
