Hello all I was just wondering if you can hang a fuge on a sump ? I was thinking about putting a small cpr refugium on my octupus sump. I think that the newer cpr refugiums have a blacked out back panel to keep the light out of the sump. So anyways s this a good idea and has anyone else done this?

Shouldn't be a problem. I was thinking of hanging one on my current refugium/sump for mangroves.- Paul

Seems like it should work fine. Lots of people have fuges in their sumps. This doesn't seem to be much different.

could always do a tupperware next to it too. You get a little more water volume and its cheaper

Thanks to all. I will be making a well educated decision with the knowledge I gain from all your ideas.

It should work but I agree with doing a DIY. You will ave a substantial amount of green.

if you are going to hang it on your sump, you might consider going ahead and putting it right on the back of your tank.

That way any critters in the fuge, such as copepods, etc, will fall directly into your tank and avoid potentially getting killed in your return pump.

That's a good point mcallahan, I was wondering what the mortality rate of pods were going through a return pump.

low to none, they ride the current without a problem.

and the HOB will work well on either the sump or the back of the DT, but will be easier to put a light over it on the sump.
