Juvenile kole is what most would say. Although the tomini is smaller, it is a very active swimmer and should be housed in a tank 5ft long. Kole tangs ordered to go in such a tank should be medium as too small and they are ich magnets (more than an adult, but koles usually dont contract ich that easily compared to other tangs) and too large and they will not adapt. Around the 3-4" range.

    All tangs are active swimmers.

I would recommend a tomini because they are smaller, and less aggro than koles are.

Has nothing to do with ick. AKA it won't do a thing for it...

Tominesis or yellow eye kole. Both pretty and stay relativelt small.

Sorry man but this is a fallacy. UV sterilization will prevent the free floating parasites from attaching to something, developing and then reproducing and thereby ridding the fish of its Ick.

Anecdotal evidence; Any time I see more than one white spec of Ick on my tang I turn the UV on and its gone within 24-48 hours. This happens on average every 1-2 months in my tank.

Good luck getting a UV to put out enough wattage for the flow you'll put through it.

I think the figure was that the amount of sterilization that was needed to fatally harm or otherwise prevent the spread of any disease was about 10-15x the amount that is normally used. As in, where people normally use a 15w UV, they'd need either a 150watt UV or 1/10th the amount of flow normally recommended.

Oh, and btw, one white spot of ich disappearing every time you turn on your UV is a horrible example. Ich lives on the fish for days (like 3-7) at a time. You don't ever see the ich itself, just the cyst around it, which can get smaller. The ich parasite NEVER just detaches, flows through a UV, and reattaches; it takes more than a month to go through a whole life cycle. It can't kill ich that's currently on the fish.

The fact that ich keeps showing up in your tank, every single month, coincidentally around the length of the life cycle of ich, on the other hand, is proof that your UV isn't killing the ich. It's also very likely to give a placebo effect, where you don't see, or don't want to see, the ich that's still there on your fish.

if im correct UV lights dont kill anything, they just change something in their DNA preventing it from reproducing.. so when they die they become extinct.
UV will only work with free floating parasites, but not the ones attached to the fish or the ones located somewhere else during the 3 phases of crypto...
i do think the UV is helpfull however, not really a true cure but definitely helps a bit

as for a tang, i think you can fit a small-medium yellow tang...
some people have Regal tangs on their 55g with no issues. However i wouldnt do a regal since they are crypto magnets.
maybe a yellow, or a kole.
