A LFS has a Hoeven's Wrasse in stock.

I have two mandarins and wonder if the wrasse would be to much.

My tank is a 375 with the following in it:
    2 Hippo Tangs
    Yellow Belly Hippo Tang
    1 Green Chromis
    Regal Angel
    Orange Shoulder Tang
    Red Sea Emperor Angel
    Yellow Tailed Angel
    Flame Fin Tomini Tang
    Coral Beauty
Male and female Orange Anthias (Lyretail)
    Male and female Mandarin
    2 Yellow Pyramid Butterfly
1 female Blue Eye Lyretail Anthia
    1 Female Unknown Lyretail Anthia
    1 Male Square Spot Anthia
    1 Female Square Spot Anthia
    1 Black Pyramid Butterfly

I don't think one little Melanurus wrasse is going to put you over the edge in a 375. The only potential issue would be competition for food. Really the only fish it would compete for, foodwise, would be the Mandarins. Assuming your tank is relatively mature, that shouldn't be an issue. I have both a spotted mandarin and a melanurus wrasse in my 93 and they both keep getting chubbier... I don't think it will be a problem at all in an established 375.

Tank has been up since 07 and I try to add pods once or twice a year just to make sure.
I have heard they like hermit.

Mine never bothers hermit crabs, but he will go after very small snails. I don't like small snails though, so I try to buy larger ones and there is no issue. Basically he won't touch any snail bigger than about 1 cm. For reference, my wrasse is over 4", maybe closer to 5".

I have a green mandarin in my 150 & I bought an Ornate Wrasse b/c they are catagorized as peaceful. After 4 days in the tank, the wrasse would not stop attacking the mandarin. I was forced to remove the wrasse, but I took me a week to catch him b/c I have 210lbs. of LR. It sucked so bad.....

Hoevens are as exclusive to pods as other wrasse. Mine readily takes mysis, flakes & pellets. Its a polite very active fish, and imo a great addition to any tank.

it really depends on your pod population. the wrasse will definitely out compete the mandarins if there is not enough for all three. My melanarus does nothing but hunt the rocks all day.

    Spot on there, agree.

Maybe, maybe not. Dependent upon individual attitude. Feed properly, and you'll have little issue.

Ornate what? There's a few different species which might be labeled so generically, and might not be the same species were talking about here. Regardless, you probably wouldn't have had that issue had you used an acclimation box.

Take a look at the link in my signature on wrasses; I think you'll find that useful.
