Hi there, I'm setting up a new mixed reef tank which will be LRWFO until it's established enough to start loading with corals. I will have a lot of rock work with hiding places and wanted to know if this fish combo would be safe to house together.

    5 blue.green chromis
    1 longnose filefish
    2 ocellaris clowns
    1 one spot foxface
    1 six line wrasse
    1 yellow tang
    5 spotted cardinalfish

The tank is 60x18x24 and has a 50 gal sump with a refugium and of course I would wait until it's fully cycled before adding fish but would like to add this group all at once.

If this won't work please tell me why and give any other fish recommendations.

I chose this group based on color, size, feeding requirement, temperament and ease of care.

    Thanks.

I think that is too much to add at one time. You have to stagger additions so the tank can adjust to the bio load.

+1. I think those would OK, but certainly not when added all at one time. The tank needas to be able to catch up with the bio-load.

:)Those sound really good, but add the fish over time. Maybe adding about 2 fish every month or two.

I'd reconsider the longnose filefish, they have a very low survival rate in captivity, and like other filefish, can pick at corals.

Yeah, I was thinking that because of the huge amount of bio filtration from all the rock and approx 150 gals of water that adding that many small fish wouldn't be too much on the bio load of the tank but it makes sense to add them in smaller groups.

I am also rethinking the filefish too, I really only chose that because it had a different shape and cool colors and was passive. I'll find something to replace it.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

There is only enough bio filtration (i.e. live bacteria) as there is needed to keep up w/the bio load. The rock can support much more, but it's not there unless the load is.

bacteria has to reproduce - so it'll take a while to catch up.

...I also feel like that's just too many fish. That will be quite a crowded tank even if total water volume is enough.
