I'm helping my father set up his 120 aquarium(basic depth) and was wondering if I can install 2 250w 14k sunlight supply reef optix 3 reflectors under the hood. When underneath the reflector is about half an inch from the top of the tank but the bulb is about 5 inches away. I know it will get hot, but other than that, would it be alright?

I think 5inches would be way to close my friend. You would burn up every coral in the tank

I make my canopies taller so I get air flow around the bulbs and reflectors.
Here are 2x250w MH and 2x140w VHO using PFO parallel reflectors in a 16" tall canopy.

I think that would be far too close.

What brand of canopy do you have? I bet you can raise the canopy to give you more room.

I raised my AGA 90g's mission canopy to be able to house 2x250 of MH.

yeah it might be possible to raise the canopy. I'll check it out when I visit next time. I'll take a picture also if that doesn't work.
