can i put the sand from tank and put in sump?

    i just took about 15-20 lbs od sand out of my tank, now there is about a 2 inch sand bed all the way across. now with this extra sand can i put it in my sump? my fug isnt up and running yet, so what do i do with it?

    you don't need sand in your sump. if it's good aragonite sand, just rinse it all out and set it aside for now. whatever bacteria living in it will die anyway.

    stick it in a bucket unless theres some reason you need it in water.

    if you just worried about it being alive. it will probably live for a month or two if you poor some saltwater in it. i mean the stuff they sell at the store is called live and its in air tight bag for a year

    I like both ideas presented. However, I tend to gravitate towards keeping it alive, just because it gives you incentive to start building your sump/fuge. Believe me, you can do it pretty cheap and all by your lonesome. I did it and I am NO handyman.

    ok cool. i have it in containers in my sump but maybe ill just store it until i set up my fuge. Its live sand, so can i just put it in a bucket will a lil water and a lid?

    i would leave the top off, for oxygen exchange but it really doesn't matter much its just sand.
