I'm trying to figure out how to setup my return when I put in my first sump and fuge. I want to add a self made rotating return but I actually have never looked at how the plumbing is supposed to look like coming from your return pump to the DT.

    Thanks.

My plumbing is in my build thread in my sig, might be a little more complicated than you want but might give you an idea. It will vary depending on whether you have a hole drilled for it, or whether you want to go over the top of the tank, also what locations you have to run/secure plumbing to the stand etc, whether you can or want to use hard PVC or whether a hose would work better. There are a lot of variables and a lot of personal preference IMO.

I really want to go with PVC. I just have never worked with it a day in my life lol.

When connecting two pieces do I glue them together or what?

I know I sound like a total noob with this stuff but it really is because I am!

I did this when I upgraded to my 72 bow w/gal long sump/fuge.
First pic is what I started with then you can see in second pic I changed out the egg crate and spray bar and added a filter sock(works much better and easier to clean..you can see how it splits off with a TEE to slow flow in the fuge section..

and the answer to your glue question is yes.place a little primer on both pieces and then the glue push together hold for a few sec and let it dry for a couple hrs, you`ll be good to go...

    Thanks.

Do I use super glue or a special type of glue? Also, how do I know if I should add a valve or not?

there is special glue for pvc sold right next to it in the home stores..you will need a valve and union, 1 is to close it off(stop flow) the other will allow you to disconnect the pump from the system for repair or to replace..look a lunas last pic that disc shape at the bottom is a union..
