Just wondering how people have them setup and where!

Are they near the tank...in another room...etc?

And you keep them running 24x7 even if you have no plans on adding new fish?

I am considering one...but dont want an eye sore next to the tank....I think I may put it in my "fish room" (extra laundry room not in use).

    Thanks!

I do not set mine up until it is needed. It is either a standard 10G or 20G glass aquarium with an AquaClear hang on back filter for which I keep a sponge insert in my main sump at all times so it is charged with bacteria and ready to go. I add new saltwater, a small heater, some PVC pipe or fittings for fish to hide in or an egg crate rack if its corals to hold them off the bottom, either a PC or a small 150w MH light again depending on if its corals or fish, a small Koralia or other powerhead and if its fish I often wrap the tank with an old towel so movement in the room does not scare them.
It can be set up on a stand next to my display in about 20 minutes and is torn down after each use. The filter sponge gets thrown away and a new one stuck in the sump for next time its needed. Been doing this for years now and it works well. I really don't need another tank to maintain plus if it had water in it all the time I would be tempted to put other inhabitants in it and ruin the idea of a QT or hospital tank.

My setup was VERY similar to AzDesertRats except mine were run non-stop in the fish room. There was no rock....only PVC tubes for fish to hide in. One was for corals, one was for fish. I had a powerhead in both, an airstone in a freshwater corner sponge filter in the fish QT. In addition to this, I had a cheap HOB biowheel filter that I kept floating in the sump of the DT. Once a week I added a small pinch of flake food to the QT even though it was empty to keep the bacteria alive.
