Can i turn my skimmer off at night?

    Shut the protein skimmer off after the hose is run to make sure it doesn't create a siphon. Mine didn't for a while, but after I cleaned it last time it started to siphon. Moving the hose up into an arch above the water level solved the problem.

    If you have a fuge and run it offset time, the CO2 at night won't be as dramatic. I used to run my skimmer only during the day and turned it off at night when the fuge came on. I never had algae problems.
