can i use equipment after i used it for freshwater, on saltwater??

    i have a filter and a small net that i would like to use on a sea horse tank i may set up. will these give any ill affects to the sea horses? how can i rense them so that wont be so?

    All of my stuff was once used for salt then fresh now back at salt with no ill affects.

    thanks goodness!! i have always wanted to try sea horses but didnt think i had the money. well i found everything i would need besides food and a heater ( i even found a dead seahorse lol) in the attic. i had mysis for my clowns ( guess they dont get that anymore) that i will use for my sea horses whenever i get them.

    The only time you run into issues with this, is if you used copper based medications in the freshwater and ran it through the filter. Copper hurts inverts and corals. Some say it can take up to a year to leach copper out of silicone and plastics. If you cleaned it well even after a copper use, should be okay.

    oh wow didnt even think of that. if i clean it good enough will it be ok?
    how should i clean it so that it will not hurt the sea horses?

    Pretty common concern when buying used fishtanks and a good question to ask the seller. I think that freshwater enthusiasts are much quicker to "medicate". So, the potential is greater IMO. Good advice cd..........
    Otherwise, I would go ahead and use.

    Don't risk it. Small amounts of copper and seahorses will melt. You might look into the filter's history but for something as cheap as a net the cost of sea horses is not worth it. Also you should not net seahorses. They are slow enough to catch using much more gentle methods.
