Go to Home Depot and buy some acrylic rods. Not expensive
wood will deteriate over time and expand and could split the rock where u drill the holes.

Fiberglass rods are another option. I was able to get these for less than acrylic. 3/8" fiberglass rods are used as posts for electric fences. I got mine at AgriSupply but here's a random company on the internet that has what I'm talking about Fiberglass Posts and General Introduction to Posts I highly reccomend using rods to help stabilize your rock work and wish that I had used more. I didn't use them for the rocks that I thought were securely dry stacked but I had a mini disaster when I banged into them with a grabber while trying to rescue a fallen coral.

Have fun and use a concrete bit to drill the rocks
