As the tittle says. My tank is about 2 months old. Had my diatom bloom and my cuc did a pretty nice job on it. I started feeding algae sheets to my tang and suddenly they are back with a vengence! The clip is fairly small, could the plastic from a new clip cause a big diatom bloom again?

the added nutrients from the extra food could, and i am sure the plastic could, but i would think its more because of the extra nutrients from the food hanging there all day.

Yes it was probably the clip. Anytime you add something plastic you'll get some silicates. They'll use it up and fade away. Also with it being a young tank it might just be the first bloom coming back. They will eventually go away.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would say your theory seems sound, a 2 month old tank is still very young. To consider that silicates are still present in such a young tank does not seem like a stretch to me at all. The plastic clip is probably just contributing to the growth. Sure looks like typical diatoms in the images to me.
