Can LR be "live" if it becomes dry?

    I would like to buy some LR listed on Craig's List but it looks like the owner pulled it out of his tank and allowed it to dry. Every time I buy LR, it comes out of a tank and is kept wet until it is installed into my own tank.

    if it is bone dry, then its just rock
    if it is still damp, then there will be some life left on it

    most of the commonly found hitch hikers are super tough and can tolerate some but you might have to re-cycle the rock to avoid die off in your main tank :-(
