Hi all need some help I have a 90 gal reef with 140#LR it has been running for about 4 months. All my water parameters check but it looks like a snow storm in my tank. Its just blowing stuff all over some is sand other looks like little particles. I thought it was micro bubbles but when I shut down my sump still see it blowing. I have cleaned and relined my 2(new)koralia 3 powerheads a few time now no help. I also have a spray bar in the back of the tank(helps with water movement) runs off its own pump about 10 to 12 inches up from the sand I have shut that off as well does'nt seem to make a difference.I do use R.O./D.I. water. I use Red Sea Coral Pro salt. Can it be the placement of my powerheads causing all of this, could it be the tank is new as well as all the rock, I do feel like my salt does not mix that well(mix with a maxi jet). I have a sponge in my sump and when I rinse it is filled with sand is this normal? Also my skimmer seems to be collecting alot of what looks like clay or wet sand in the higher part of the tube. Will water changes help? Thanks sorry for the long post. Matt

Are you sure it's sand and not partially calcium falling out of solution? People often say that looks like a snow storm in the aquarium.

If it's sand and not calcium, then what I do with my powerheads is put them lower and point them up. Not too low though or the pull the sand up.

I don't think its calcium falling out although the salt mix i use has calcium in it can I have a bad batch? I should say snow storm that might be a little miss leading but I 'am just frustrated at this point. I will try relining the powerheads. This maybe a dumb question what is calcium falling out of solution? Thanks Matt

Yeah I corrected my first post. I don't think it's Ca precip either, thats why I suggested the powerhead placement
I'd say mounted on sides, pointing towards the front, top half of the tank, have a little wave action on top, not splashing, just waves.
