Just wondering if this ever happens. Mom was enraged that my brother got a 10 gallon tank for his room, so she told him to take it outside and dump out the water. As he was doing so she takes a rock and smashed the tank.

I have a 28 Nanocube in the livingroom, a 3 gallon pico in my room, and an empty 40 gallon breeder in my room since I don't have a place to store it until I get an apartment next summer for college.

If my mom were to go around and smash all three tanks, do I have the right to sue for property damage? I'm 19, so I'm considered an adult, and the tanks are a pretty big investment and would hate for $1000+ to go down the drain because they were smashed for some stupid reason.

Yeah I know, it sounds like I have a lot of parent issues. haha I think my parents have a loose nut in the noodle.

This is a serious issue that needs to be handled in a very different place than this forum. For someone to rage out like that as an adult is a very scary thing.

If it's in her house she has possession. She would be able to prove it as her property much easier than you would. Unless you have signed receipts still I guess.

No, parents don't have the right to destroy "private" property. If you have a receipt that proves you bought it, you can call the police and make them pay restitution. Anger management may also be ordered.

+1 to this. Not to step on anyones toes but first this is a family matter and airing out family business in public never turns out good.

Second if it comes to being a legal matter, or for legal advice search out a legal expert. forum lawyers can sometimes lead matters astray and cause more issues than you started out with.
