Can Purigen work too well?

    Hello all!
I have a 110 gallon mixed reef tank that is only a couple of months old. with it is a 30 gallon sump and a large precision marine redline 150 skimmer. I have been researching how to build a Purigen reactor to run off line from the sump and I started to wonder if running purigen prophylactically would be a bad idea. Right now all my readings, ammonia, nitrates, trites, and phosphates are all zero. We have a very low bio load of a couple of clowns and a few frags with a large Cuc. My thoughts were that if Purigen works so well as everyone claims, that it would "choke" my natural biologic filters...ie live rock of nutrients, killing of bacteria. Is this the case, or am I missing something?

Why were you using Purigen in the first place? I don't see it choking anything out. It's just a po4 absorbant.

I would just use the bags of purigen instead of a reactor , no mess and easier to regenerate IMO.
I have a few bags in my sump , good stuff

It only removes organic waste not phosphates.

That stuff did some strange things in my freshwater Jack Dempsey tank a long time ago. I was thinking it reversed the bio load or something. Just a strange product.

It is a great product, but I think your load is too low to worry about it for now. Once you have a full fish load it would be good to start using it.
