Seahorse question: Can the 2 above sub-species be kept together in the same tank? I have a 55 gal with only 2 Reidi's. Have kept them for over 7 months now. Will they get along with their South American cousins? I believe they look very similar and are about the same sizes when fully matured.

    Thanks

The problems that occur when mixing species can also occur with same species different breeding source.
Seahorses have great difficulty dealing with pathogens they are exposed to from other fish, including other seahorses, if those fish/seahorses are sourced from a different breeder than the one they were raised in.
Occasionally it can work, but most times you will lose some or all of one species, and often you end up losing everything.
With a 55g tank you should have no problem keeping 6 reidi, especially if you have a sump as well. Can you not get more reidi sourced from the same breeder as the ones you already have?
I should mention too that kelloggi seahorses available in the US in the last few years, have a terrible track record for survival.
They are also a much larger seahorse than the reidis.

I agree to stay away from kelloggi horses.

I mixed 3 species from the same source. It worked for a couple of times. But it's a risk every time you add new ones. The question is, is the risk worth it for you. It was for me as I had too many tanks.
