The LPS has had this sitting on there shelf for many years, they say it has missing parts. They want $40 for it. Long story short I want to turn it in to a HOB fuge.

It is about 14 length by 5 wide and 12 tall. (approx) It is designed to overflow into the tank. So I am assuming I will have a pump going into the fuge.

This is what I want to do. I want to put a few mangroves or macroalgae. in fuge, add another source of mecahnical filtration and I want it to have a DSB or rock rubble for a copepod breeding place. My problem is the design only has one baffle near the overflow section, if I put my DSB/rock rubble on the opposite side (pumpside) of the baffle,it will probably get clogged at the gab on the bottom of the baffle. Also I want to seperate it to do another section containing some short of mechanical filter.
How should I design this toL 1.eliminate bubbles
2.seperate DSB side from filter side and still have it be efficent.
3.create a design hat will allow the DSB from becoming clogged at bottom of existing baffle

I was also thinking instead of giving the fuge an independant pump to just run a pump on a phosban reactor and have the return side of the reactor to just fill back into the fuge to create the overflow into the DT. would this be to much flow? to little? an engineering advice is welcome

You know b71, cira was putting a pretty cool fuge together. Sharp kid too. You may PM him & pick his brain on what works best. His was a very nice self-designed fuge.

It looks like it's almost done for you. The only problem I see is that the baffle between the big section and small section routes water flow under. If you put a DSB in, the water will be forced to flow through it or just over onto the floor. I would either cut the baffle out, drill holes at the top and just cut some off the top of it. This will make it so the water can flow over it and you can have a DSB in the entire thing. Other than that you just need a pump and some plumbing to pump water into the big section.

if you have a dremel then you can cut some weirs into the top of that baffle and put filter floss in the bottom gap... it would double as a 1. mechanical filter and 2. a separator
