i mainly want a hammer/frogspawn/torch, toadstool leather, zoas, bta, and maybe a couple sps. can i grow all of these? and if i wanted to go to my 20 and still grow a nem, would i need to switch to the 12 light instead of 6?

First, keeping sps and nems and the other corals you list in 1 20g, is a recipe for failure regardless of the light. It can be done, but I wouldn't recomend starting out all guns blazing like that... just my .02.

As to the light, SPS is a general term, for many SPS that won't be enough (for many even 12 may not be enough for some to really thrive IMHO).

BTA, doesn't really need much, still 6 may too few. They can grow to almost the size of a 20g though, so, I tend to say that may be something to wait for until you upgrade tanks, but just my .02.

So my personal recommendation would be to skip the BTA and SPS for now and go with 12 dimmable, instead of 6. The reason being, 6 is minimal for the other stuff even and LEDs will loose output over time, so, being able to bump up the output over time is quite useful.

I have a BioCube (25 Gallons or so) with 36 Cree LEDs above it and everything is happy and healthy.

I have SPS, Softies, LPS and a pretty large BTA. 6 LEDs wont do too much when it comes to SPS, I would look for 24LEDs. This way you can house whatever you want.

Please keep in mind, 25 gallons is not a lot of water. I dose 18.7ml of Calcium and Alkalinity a day to keep my levels stable.

I have 55 over my 20. They are Bridgelux diodes at 65% output.

Dang!! That seems like a lot, I can't go past 50% or I'll bleach everything.

oh shoot sorry i forgot to put a 10 gallon. i was just noting that i had a 20 as a backup. i want a couple of those things in my 10, def not all of them. lol the ones o want most are frogspawn or hammer, if i cant have a nem, then also a torch, and the toadstool. i want to start off with the frogspawn or hammer and then to zoas and then torch and toadstool. would that be enough light for my 10 to grow them? then what if i got like 1 montipora or acro or birdsnest (only one of those) in my 10, would it be good?

Euphyllia, and leathers are probably okay in a 10g, with 6. I might still go with 12 dimmable though, they can do okay with less light, but more won't hurt them. And as mentioned you'll have more versatility.

How long will it be until you upgrade? When I was upgrading my lighting, I took into consideration that I would be upgrading to a 55 gallon in 6 months. For that reason, I went with an LED unit instead of a 24" t-5 unit (and bulbs) so that I didn't have to purchase a 48" unit and 48" bulbs 6 months later. Instead, I went with 1 LED unit that would light up my 20 with plans to buy a second down the road. It saved me $150.

    Just some food for though.

okay so 12 could grow even sps in a 10 gallon? idk when ii will upgrade. i dont really have that much money to spend right now even with Christmas coming up. so i just planned on getting a couple of things to start. and ik the lighting is the most important thing right now for me, bc i have tried many different cheap things and of course none of them worked out, so im going all out this time and get it for Christmas. is dimmability a necessity or would i be alright with the nondimmable?
