    here is my situation...

i have a 36 gallon bowfront with the octopus 100f on it...which is doing a great job...

i just bought a 75 gallon tank...going to upgrade...the tank game with refugium with bio balls and a protein skimmer built in if i want to use it...

    so my question is....

will it hurt to use my octopus 100f and the skimmer that is in the refugium??????????

    thanks
    Wade

That actually depends greatly in what kind of tank do you want to have

I dont see any reason to skim hard if you dont need too. Cause you also pull out good stuff when you skim.

I would just set the collection to be very very dry.

My skimmate comes flying out of the tank like a spider monkey.

My pm bullet skims hard, as long as I babysit the skimmer daily to keep it working. Really annoying, but I like what it does for my tank.

The skimmers will basically compete for the same organics. You cannot really overskim a tank. You can get a skimmer with a neck that is too wide for your organic level though...

BTW: Make sure to have your skimmer upstream of (or parallel to) your refugium. Having a skimmer in or downstream of your refugium will make it skim some of the good critters (like copepods) that the fuge produces.
