I am going to upgrade my led to a better one. I currently have a ecoxotic par38 20k on a 36 bow front and I want to get a little more light to bottom. I am thinking about the AI SOL brand but I don't know what would be the best one because there are several options. Note I will be going up to a 65 rimless sometime so I want it to have enough to go on that tank also. I will put two of what ever I get for the 36. Help me out guys what are your thoughts

What kind of corals will you be keeping? It all depends on that, soft and Lps you could get a lower wattage light if it'd Sps you will need higher. Also with them you can hook them up to a reefkeeper and control the light with it. You can ramp up the blues then white then ramp down at night.

The Ai that you already mentioned is great. There is really only two options. AI SOL white, or AI SOL Blue. The Blue give better color control. YOu could always wait for the AI VEGA, (whenever that will be). A radion might be a good choice too.

I would wait till the AI vega comes out. They are taking preorders so we aren't far from release.

IMO I would check out the AI Sol Blue w/controller. I just bought the nano version for my BC14, and I could not be happier. Just to give you some idea, the nano was placed over one of the new Innovative 38g tanks at the lfs, and it was ideal for corals. Although the full version has 4 times the LED sockets (I believe), it should be more than sufficient for your tank now, and give you the option down the road to add another to operate in tandem when you upgrade. The beauty of the AIs is the advanced features of the controller. You can control all three colors individually, creating any coloration desired with the turn of a dial and create custom sunrise/sunset/mid-day PAR increases with or without a separate controller.

As for the differences between the Sol Blue/white, I have read there is very little difference in PAR output, however, due to the spectrum, the SOL Blues actually deliver slightly more PAR to depth then the Whites. I personally like the blue because you have white, blue, and royal blue, and you can control the brightness of each til your hearts content.

If you are like me you will LOVE the impact of the Royal Blue LEDs for sunrise/sunset. Whatever you choose, good luck! I know its a lot of money, these LEDs, so I think you are definately doing the right thing in asking these questions first, as opposed to me, impuslivly buying before asking my fellow reefers :-/

I would have to agree, I just wish they had a nano version :sunny: Oh well, guess a bigger tank is in the works.
