So like i went to this guys house to buy his Excalibur skimmer, he gave me a Sea Clone for free and added in this soft Coral frag, he ripped it right off the rock as I stood there , he said what it was, but it left my mind not even 5 minutes later, he also later will be giving me a nice Frog Spawn and this other green soft Coral, I think he said the one was a Pink something something, so how do I mount this thing?

I am going to make a wild guess and say maybe a finger leather? it will grow onto a small rock if you put a rubber band around it. but make sure it isn't to tight as it will cut it off.

Hard to tell with it closed and folded. May be a cabbage or finger leather. Secure it to a rock or frag plug with mesh netting or rubber band and it will attach itself.

BTW, that SeaClown is dumpster food. Good thing it was free. :)

Here is a better picture of him out of the bag, not sure of finger leather, maybe he used the scientific name.

How long does it normally take for them to attach?

I really don't understand the bad reputation the Sea Clone gets, the tank pictured was one of the most natural looking tanks I had ever seen, over 3 years it never once had an issue, he had kept a healthy Sebae the entire time he had the tank, a feat I heard not easy to do. the only fillteration he had on that what I would call a very very successful tank was a Sea Clone skimmer, nothing more, I found it funny he had this huge tank and the only filter was this little Sea Clone hanging on the back.
Even never haven a reef tank myself I found it hard to believe that little thing kept the tank so clean and healthy. I feel my tank is done well, but I can only hope I can keep a tank as long as healthy.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    reefnJeff,

It does look like a leather. The same conditions apply as to conditions for Toad Stool and other Sacrophytons.

Mod to high flow, mod lighting. If you see algae or the coral is unable to rid it's self of the waxy film increase flow.

I have had SeaClones, yes it did a decent job. The problems arises with regard to the salt creep, constant adjustment and the noise of the skimmer. You can buy a skimmer that performs much better for almost the same amount of money. Try a Tunze next to a SeaClone and there is no contest, the same can be said for a lot of other skimmers.

If you are happy with the look, and results that is all that matters in the long run.

Thanks Corailline! He seems more comfortable in his new home and looking good considering what it went through yesteday! I think I picked a good spot for it.
I am not sure yet what skimmer I will use, now I have my Coral life super skimmer 65g on, but I did buy that Excalibur and its the same concept just different design than the CLSS65, what I like more about the Excalibur is there will be less clutter in the tank, The Sea Clone even less clutter than the Excalibur.

Just to clarify, I did have a SeaClone once. Here are the issues I had:

Prefilter sponge: Needs to be cleaned often and is cumbersome to remove and replace with the venturi intake running through it. Without it, the foam collapses and the skimmer blows microbubbles into the DT for several hours every time it sucks up a little particulate matter.

Venturi intake: Clogs with salt creep frequently and needs to be flushed with RO/DI freshwater. Also difficult to keep the air/water mix adjusted.

Body: By it's very design, performance is easily compromised with the growth of low-light coralline algae; green slime also frequently accumulates around the top of the tubes and it's a PITA to disassemble for cleaning.

Collection cup O-ring: Wears out fairly quickly and is also easily damaged when disassembling the body for cleaning.

Does it work? Sure. But as Corailline already stated, there are better skimmers by far in the same price range.

BTW, your coral is looking like either a finger leather or a tree coral. :)
