Im currently running a rena xp2 filter on my 55g (sump sometime down the road) But for now i thought about buying just a xp1 gutting the crap in the middle besides the trays and adding live rock. Then having it go to my xp2. I planned to get a good base of rubble rock and keeping some in the tank and the other in the canister. And changing it out every time i do a filter change. That way the rock is still getting growth from the lights. Is this even possible or worth it?? Or should i just speed up the saving for the sump lol. :p

IMO I wouldn't waste money on canister filters. They are kinda hard to clean and most people I know who have used them often experience Nitrate and or Phosphate problems. It is very important to do maintenance on these filters because they can trap alot of nutrients. Sumps are definitely the way to go.;)

For the same price you could almost start a cheap sump.
