I fired up my protein skimmer last night And now I have so many micro bubbles you would think I had an air stone in the tank. My question is do you think if I lower the water level in the sump and use weld on to apply acrylic baffles and allow it to dry for an hour will it work? Will that be toxic to the fish?

    Thanks,

    Will

You don't give much info about your setup in general. Is the output of the protein skimmer as practicably far away from your return pump as it can be? If not, make it so. If it is, then a baffle should solve your problem. Since bubbles float, you might consider a baffle that allows flow underneath it, rather than one which allows flow over it. You might construct it so the bottom is 2 inches above the sump's bottom, and the top is above the water level.

Such a shame, huh? Micro bubbles are theoretically great for the system. They oxygenate the water very well. Unfortunately there's nothing as unsightly as a tank's clarity obscured by zillions of bubbles. :(

Usually protein skimmers tend to shoot out a lot of micro bubbles the first couple of days they are up. I would just wait and see if the bubbles will stick around for any longer period of time. You might want to use a sponge or something as a bubble catcher for the output of water back into the tank.

Thanks to both of you. I guess I forget that not everyone reads my build thread;D Yes I have the discharge for the skimmer at the left side of the sump and the intake to the pump is on the right side.

A sponge sounds like a good idea too. I just cut the acrylic for the baffles so I will give both a try.

I have three pieces should I make the water flow under the first one then over the second and under the third?

    One piece should be enough.

Okay I'll give it a try now.
