I have an extra reactor that I was running carbon in, and I replaced it with a larger PhosBan reactor, I was wondering if it was possible to turn this into a small refugium and place Chaeto in it? I could add a light source without issue.

Would be a cool concept but Cheato grows really quickly for me so I'd be in there every week trimming it back.

i dont see why not. alot of people with biocubes do almost the same thing when they shine a light through the back pane. you would just have to make sure you trim it back often to keep the flow from getting restricted. obviously a larger "traditional" fuge would work better, but this cant do anything but help so go for it!

The only thing that may cause an issue is with the light having to pass through the side (and not a non-covered top) is that nuisance algae might grow inside the tube and prevent the necessary light from getting to the chaeto.

It can certainly be done, but the question becomes whether it is worth the maintenance of scrubbing the inside of the reactor and trimming back the chaeto
