I bought my first coral frag three days ago, I picked a Candy Cane coral. I properly acclimated the coral and positioned the coral towards the top of my live rock. It has been several days and the coral has not seemed to open up and has some white substance on it. I have been doing daily doses of the two part Kent Marine Nano reef system. Am I doing something wrong?

parameters are needed...why dosing? also corals will close up when placed into a new tank. it is impossible to have the EXACT same parameters as the FS tanks so even the smallest change will make corals cranky. they usually come out after they become comfortable in their new home.

oh ya...and never dose a tank with anything that you cannot test for...ie dont dump calcium into the tank until you can test to find out the calcium levels. that is just asking for disaster. dumpin a ton of stuff into a tank will upset the corals too.

i stopped dosing my 29g +10g fuge completely except for maybe a weekly addition of strontium. i was dosing kent's two part and wasn't testing and my Ca went up to like 500, almost was very bad before I caught on and now I only dose during WC's. I usually do a 15g WC every two weeks.

also my candy cane would do that sometimes, maybe it's just getting used to the flow and light -- also when you dose the chemicals could be hurting the coral if you dose too close, same with topping off fresh water, do it in a place no animals are.

    good luck
