No you need to buy ballasts made specifically for T5HO bulbs.

Be careful with spray paints. Most are enamel based and can flake off over time. Latex and epoxy based paints are safer for saltwater aquarium use. I think it has something to do with the corrosive nature of saltwater.

I just painted the inside of my canopy white. I forgot somewhere, but white reflects light pretty well too i think. I could be way off, but it looks clean.

Its not going to be nearly as effective as reflectors and you are gonna lose alot of the power of the t-5s. If you browse online you can find reflectors for around 20 a piece. (if not cheaper someone else might be able to provide a link)

I agree on going with reflectors. Painting is better than nothing, but not nearly as effective as a good aluminum reflector that will reflect back about 95% of the light. Mirrors only reflect back about 90% and I've read that paint delivers about 80% at best.

I agree 100%. I would reconsider the painting.

Paint the inside with a white Enamel pit then use reflectors, trust me if you don't you will be unhappy with the performance of your lights

1000bulbs.com has the best prices around for ballasts.

The workhorse 5 series will push 2- 48" 54 watt bulbs each.

The workhorse 7 series will push 3-48" 54 watt bulbs each.
