I made this canopy back in feb. the Reflector is just a piece of stainless steel. Do you guys think it will reflect better if I painted it white with the same paint they use for Flourecents.
Also I have one fan in the back of the canopy and three slits cut on the top to release heat but it's not enough. My tank temp is at 84 degrees I was thinking of taking it down to cut more slits on the top.

chetrod, i would just add another fan to pull in cool air and one to remove it.

May i ask how you built your canopy, what wood did you use and hinges. I am in need to bulid one to house my new T5-ho hood and the old stock one does not work to well.

I used 1/2 inch sanded pine plywood bought the 8x4 sheet for about 25 bucks the rest is just the trim cost depends on how you want it to look. The Hinges were self locking Lid support hinges on the inside and a piano hinge on the back.

I think I am going to take it down this weekend and fit the fan on the actual hood blowing out and get another like you said to blow the cool air in.

Thanks for the information, did you use glue or just nail/screws? I have a nice nail gun but dont want the marks. My tank is in my familyroom with everyone goes.

use both for strenght I used stainable wood putty to fill the nail holes. They are not visible at all.
