Hi all. I have a new tank set up still in it's initial cycle and have been trying to get my skimmer working. It's a Reef Octopus NWB-150

It overflows like crazy no matter what I do. I've read a TON of threads about overflowing but nothing seems to work. It's currently at about 9" of water height but I have moved it everywhere from 6" to 10" as per manufacturer directions, I've ran the gate valve in every possible position and it still makes so many bubbles that the collection cup lid floats.

The only thing that makes a difference is if I close the gate valve to a dribble (that really makes it overflow bad) and then open it quickly, the water level goes down enough that it stops overflowing, but a minute later it's back to dripping like crazy from the collection cup.

I understand about the break in period but that shouldn't be why it's makes too much foam right?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I don't know if this will help but my problem was solved when i raised it or lowered the water level. I have a HOB and used a pvc to hold it up everything was fine once I raised it up...then i added a power head and the water flow was making it overflow. So I had to move the power head. Those were my only two solutions and i'm fine now hope this helps

I don't have your model but FWIW when I had this problem I drilled a hole in the lid and installed a plastic wing nut on the underside to help breakup the lager bubbles. Since then I get nice dark foam. ;)
