If you want a sand sifting fish that you'll see why not a sleeper banded goby?

man, i wish i lived near a kick ass fish store.

that's what they said originally and now they are saying their supplier can't catch it.

I don't want them to send me a freaked out fish, well, more freaked out than needs be

I'm looking at vivid website now.

What clue am I looking for to indicate if a fish is a sand sifting variety or not? More I think about it, that's what I really want here.

If you're only feeding twice a week and have an immature sandbed, I really wouldn't recommend a sifter goby. I've always had one, but I've always fed daily (and plenty). The first one (6-spot sleeper) I put in this 55 was starved when I got it, and it only lived a day or 2 even though I was feeding it. They eat a lot and need to be fed daily at a minimum (recommended twice a day, but mine's not awake in the morning when I leave), or they need to have plenty of things to eat in the sandbed.

As for telling who sifts sand, check the mouth. A wide, downturned mouth usually sifts, a smaller mouth not so much.

My 6-spot sleeper sifts. Big mouth, eyes further back from the mouth.

My orange-spot picks every once in a while, but doesn't actively sift. Smaller mouth, eyes further forward.

You can tell they have a bit of a different shape to their heads. The 6-spot physically looks just like a Diamond Watchman sleeper. The orange-spot is a shrimp goby rather than a sleeper.

The green banded goby won't really sift.

Here it is, it has a different name:

Not really the best pic, they do tend to get more blue on them.
    Better pic:

More fish in the same genus, just different coloring:

    Excellent

My first time using them. Hope the coral is algae free and the fish are healthy.

Well disregard that. The Sea Store has a $150 minimum order. I don't shop at places that won't sell you anything unless you buy some minimum amount. I just don't understand that business model and will not support it. ($225 for free shipping, which I do get)

They did offer, as a one time thing, to do the order anyway and waive the 150 requirement, but as I so rarely order that much, I didn't see the point for a one time waiver. I'd rather support retailers that don't have that requirement in the first place.
