    Lights off all night
Turned off all heaters in my room as well

Got the temp down to 25C degrees = 77F degrees :trampolin

Now ill start the process of ilimination. Turned on the fluorescent lighting and will wait till this afternoon to turn on the powerhead again. Looks like im gonna keep the lid off for good though.

    Update

Ok, the temp in my room has been nice and cool since i turned off all the heaters. I turned the powerhead back on yesterday and the tank heater as well. The lights are on as well in the tank and the lid is half open. It seems that the temp high temp in my room was the culprit which confirms what Diver_1298 said about the ambient room temp. My tank is now at a stable 26C degrees :)Glad you guys are here. Its a relief knowing i can come to the forum when i need answers from the aqua veterans.

    Cheers

When you say lid do you mean a full hood or an tight fitting glass top ? If you are using the flip open tight fitting glass tops Its a bad idea on many levels.. Unless you keep a ell or some other escape artist in there ?

Main reasons besides heat is trapped CO'2 and low total oxygen levels all day and especially at night. Your tanks does the major portion of the 0'2 and CO'2 exchange on the tanks surface. Evaporation will increase and the need to top off will increase so will the dissolved oxygen levels increase, But the temps and CO'2 will decrease.. Just food for thought. I'd never use the glass tops myself.

Its a plastic canopy lid. It came with the tank and the lighting is inlcuded. It has sections that flip open.

    A picture speaks a 100 words;D

The problem is the temperature of your room. It's too warm!

Like diver_1298 said ... "The tank is going to be at least 3-4 degrees higher than the ambient temperature of the room..".

You must keep your room temperature at around 72*F and if you can (or want) open a part of the tank-top for aeration. If you are afraid of "fish-suicides" you can cover the open part of the tank with some eggcrate (non-painted). This is what I did and it works quite well:

    Good luck!
