I must have grown some new strain of algae nobody has ever seen before!! No, I just haven't been able to find another thread with the same stuff I have.

First, this dark green algae is popping up in several spots on the substrate but nothing on the rocks or glass. This is what I really want to know about:[IMG]

Then on the other side of the tank I have another type. What I think it is...is just brown algae on the substrate that is catching nitrogen produced by the bacteria in the sand, making it look like bubble algae. But I don't know enough about it, maybe it is bubble algae...

Thanks in advance for your input.

the red slime is not catching nitrogen from the sand bed... it is just going through photosynthesis so fast that it is forms those oxygen bubbles in a matter of hours

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. The lights went out last night and I haven't turned them on until now (10pm). The "algae" has decreased drastically. The dark green stuff looks like GHA but from what I have read it is just another type of cyano. Is this correct? Also, I suppose I need to change my bulbs or at least the amount of time they are on, right?
