Can't Shake Persistent Diatoms

    What kind of food are you using? If you get your water form your LFS I would test it before you put it in your tank. Im betting one of the 2 of those is causing your Diatom issue. Also is there anything in your tank that is new like plastic?

    diamond goby would take care of it if you wanted to go that route. That is if your rock is laying directly on tank bottom.

    I think your tank could use about 3x more live rock, which will help nutrient levels.

    This may be a stupid question, but what can plastic do to cause an algae bloom?

    When you put new hardware in your tank there is silicates in plastics which cause a algae bloom some times, you see this alot with new tanks. If you touch the wave maker or anything plastic inside your tank it has like a slimy coating on it that is micro organisms. ;D So if there was even a slight amount of phosphates you could get diatoms and cyano from nitrates.
