    Thank you Sacul1573
He could have the pictures if he wanted them

    Thanks Magnus
still recording 0s on Nitrate and Phosphate, the algae doing the work on removing these 2 nutrients
I have been introducing a couple of pellets per day over last 3 or 4 days
in order to get some results on test kits

dont want it to run away from me, and leave it impossibly to manage without a series of major water changes
just want some low readings for all tanks and then the testing can begin

It slipped my mind that the algae will use some of the nitrate and phosphate to grow.
The plan is solid for what you're trying and I think you're being very systematic and consistent with it, without rushing things.

Very nice experiment, Steve. Glad you can sacrifice some of your time for the benefit of many other hobbyists!

Keep up the great work. I'm proud of being a member of this forum and although I haven't been an active poster as I used to at the beginning, I check it almost daily.

The experiment is looking bad, and by that i mean looking good. Have you considered taking a planted tank approach, and dosing some nitrates and phosphates?

Nice work with the 2 opposable digits Magnus
technology has not escaped us eh LOL

hey Mikey - its a good idea
I do in fact have the materials needed, from my freshwater set up - well a source of Phosphates anyway in the product flourish

but I figure I am not in any rush with this, there is no fish or coral to be stocked long term, hence letting nature take it course with some general overfeeding and complete lack of maintenance /water changes etc
it will get there and when it does , it will be representitive of real time conditions that many in the hobby get to

LOL, it does take me about 20 minutes to type such a message, and time is in abundance while at work, but shhhh ;-)

The good thing is that I'm getting better and faster with this keyboard :)

    update

Salifert and Red Sea test kit readings from today

    Phosphate Salifert - 0.2
    Nitrate Red Sea - between 10 - 20 ppm

been dropping half a dozen Ocean Nutrition pellets into all 4 set ups every day this week
cannot see into the tanks at present, film algae is that thick

Ill clean them up and do water change Saturday
Ill post new images so that you can all see, I have 3 or 4 of the same types/ species of algaes in all 4 set ups now (that was actually the hardest part, I had to cross contaminate regular, to achieve this)

and then its officially going to start

Sweet! It's getting more and more interesting everyday! I can imagine.... you must have done all the don'ts in order to get them here. I can even picture you overfeeding and spreading all the parties with a grin!

Results will come in fast imo. Can't wait to see how each contender measures up against each other.

Did you already split the systems into 4 individual ones or still sharing water?

I hate to say this, but my experience with biopellets is that while it will reduce nitrates and phosphates considerably, it does not out-compete most algae sources, and you may end up never getting rid of most if not all types of nuisance algae...

I believe your experiment may confirm or disprove my suspicions, but we'll see. I hope I'm wrong.

I hope you are wrong too;)
