    update

day 6 of testing using 0.2 mils Vodka in tank 2
I noticed that one of the species of red algae that are seemingly (I cannot ID accurately) common across the 4 tanks is showing definite signs of coloration loss in tank 2 - Vodka dosed tank

    see images below

    Tank1 - GFO
    [IMG]
    Tank 2 - Vodka at 0.2mils
    [IMG]
    Tank 3 - Biofuel at 1.0 mils
    [IMG]
    Tank 4 - 100 mils of N and P biopellets
    [IMG]

dosage is due to be increased to 0.3 mils from Tomorrow, so again we will see if that makes any further difference

I will in addition be changing the GFO in tank 1 again

Almost looks like a cross between chaeto and red gracilaria...

Looks like Gracilaria Parvisipoa to me, but i'm not really good at ids. Maybe we should consult with John at reefcleaners? Would be good to know if carbon dosing has an effect on macro algae. Could also be out of control turf algae thought too, idk.

Wow, lots to think about there!

Just tell everyone the truth about the biology excuse, Steve: u just want 4 more nano reefs! LOL.

I certainly enjoy reading this thread and the contributions it has received all along. Keep it up, 3reef!

Ps: tank 3 (biofuel) also shows some discoloration of that macro, but not even close from tank 2 (vodka)

Sacul1573 - Its not a bad looking algae to be honest, I have a couple of species across the 4 tanks that IMO are actually not unattractive to look at

I shall Google that one m2434 , See if any of the images are similar

    Tell everyone the truth?
you mean, "I am a sad middle aged bloke with to much free time on his hands" ? LOL

agreed , the bio fuel tank seems to be also having a similar color fade affect on the red tumbleweed

    Update
got 2 large Astra snails for each tank yesterday and 4 extra
which I put into the 5ft ( replacements should any of the 8 between the 4 tanks, come to an early demise)

I have to admit a couple of weeks ago, I did kick myself for not commiting to a 5th tank and a 5ft light unit, as white Vinegar, Sarsons brand suddenly appeared in my local wallmart
Im sure there is a Chinese equivelent thats been staring me in the face for many weeks, but as I cannot read the language and would not trust a non reefer to translate , I decided against using vinegar, and then out of the blue, Sarsons

one for the future though, I would certainly like to see how it performs versus the others.

or how about with bacteria ( i use bio digest) added verses no bacterial strains added?

    oh the future possibilities...
