I went to the local pet shop to see if they sold carbon, they had some that stated it was for fresh water only. Does anyone have any theories as to why that is? I was going to get it anyway but I thought I will check with you guys first. I thought carbon is carbon.

Never heard of any being for freshwater only. My guess would be that it is loaded with phosphate that it will release.

Carbon is carbon, except there's many types of carbon. Different methods for making it, and they are effective at different levels. There's a difference in contaminant levels, too.

    Possibly, or a metal contaminant.
