You don't really need carbon as long as you have a good skimmer and sponge. It's good to have as extra though IMO.

Well, i wont be getting it until next month(birthday) so i am trying to get info on it before i get it..

I want to get alot of filtration for this tank, i slack on most of my tanks and this tank especially has alot of particles flying around the tank, it isnt clear..And so i would really like to clear it up and help with alot of filtration and stuff.

You could also get something like this: Biocube 29 Media Basket
And just run chaeto, carbon, and Purigen in it.

Sounds good. :) I've never had the media basket, but the fish saver is golden.

carbon is not necessary but imho can help a lot. I like carbon because I keep things that can be bad each other through water chemicals and I feel carbon helps me feel safer about doing this, pulse carbon will keep your tank from getting a funky smell at times. The down side that I hear to carbon (I'm still on the fence about this) is if you don't change it quick enough it can leach the bad stuff back into your tank and make problems. There are better things than carbon but they are more expensive, I will always run carbon in my smaller tanks, if I was going to set up a tank with out carbon I would feel better about it being a bigger tank. I also have a hard time with tanks under 20g, so some one else might feel different about that.
