I am thinking of a possible better placement for my carbon bag... Currently I have it on the protein skimmer exit which is on the overflow out area of my sump before it goes into the fuge. then to the return chamber....(10 Gal sump)...I did have it directly on the tube as the water exited to the first sump chamber...

Just looking for a few suggestions or input of having carbon in sumps..

    Thank you!!!!

anywhere that water flow through the bag is the best place really, i like your skimmer placement.

I have mine at the input of the water into the sump. I figured as good of a place as any.

I like the skimmer output idea as long as it isn't hampering the flow of water out of the skimmer itself. Carbon after the skimmer makes the most sense to me because the skimmer is probably pulling out some stuff that would get caught in the carbon, feeding the carbon cleaner water I believe should make it last longer.
Only better way I can think of is to run it in a separate reactor which should give you better flow over all of the surfaces of the carbon.

Best place to have one is where you are pushing water through it like in a reactor.

Agreed i keep my carbon in a phosbane style reactor and it seems to work good for me.

I keep mine in a PM reverse flow substrate reactor.

Yeah , reactor is the best and will pull impurities fastest.
I have mine in a bag in the sump. It works for now.
