I am currently running an aqua c remora pro with a surface skimmer box attached to it. The return section of the box is fairly large and I was wondering if people thought I could put a bag with carbon in the return compartment. I am currently running a canister until I build my sump and really want to discontinue using it but don't really want to lose the ability to use the sea gel I currently have in it.

Yes. I have a sac of carbon and a sac of gfo in mine.

    +1 absolutely.

GAC and GFO remove nutrients and contaminants that a skimmer will not.

+2 to both above and you may be better off sticking with sea gel as it is a mix of matrix carbon and phosguard, with both being spherical shaped, they are both designed to run actively (in a reactor) or passively, the sphere shape allows for full water flow and eliminates "channeling" of the flow through it for better water contact with the media, where regular gfo in a media bag will tend to "clump" and let water flow around it,making gfo much less effective.

And any media you put in the return chamber will be a big plus for helping reduce microbubbles.

Yup, I've only had my surface skimmer on for a week but I like it.
Microbubbles, all but gone. A large place for media.
I just played with it and got it adjusted juuuuuust right as far as height for surface skimming. The chamber with the pump is only about 3/4 or 3/5 full of water. The water level in the output side stays about 1/4" inch below the top rim so all water is being forced (thru the media) and out the bottom.
It is a pain to get it adjusted just so but it works really well when it is.

This was sort of mentioned already, but carbon/GFO are far more effective run through a pressurized reactor than just water passing around or maybe through. But having it in a bag in the return is certainly better than nothing!
